If you purchase mushroom spore syringes for research, you want to make the most of each unit. Thus, you want to make sure that you store them in proper conditions to keep the spores alive and untainted for as long as possible.
Here is what you need to know:
- Keep the Syringes in a Dark Place
All mushrooms thrive in dark places. Direct sunlight is one of their biggest enemies. Thus, you must never expose the syringes to light. Also, you must keep them away from any source of heat. Even room temperature is too hot for the spores.
- Store the Syringes in a Fridge to Preserve Them
The fridge is an ideal place to store a spore syringe for both short and long term. The ideal storage temperature is between 50 and 65 degrees Fahrenheit. The fridge is also a great storage place for because it is dark.
- Do Not Freeze Mushroom Spore Syringes
Freezing is considered the best method for long term preservation. This is not true for mushroom spores. They spores are suspended in a water solution. As freezes, the water expands and breaks the syringes. You will be unable to use the spores once the syringe is damaged.
